One Direction and Nicki Minaj song shares acquired by ole

Acquisitive Canadian rights management company ole has purchased the 2101 Songs catalogue from RedOne Productions, snapping up more than 1,000 pop and urban songs.

Founded by pop producer, songwriter, and musician Nadir Khayat – aka RedOne – 2101 Songs was created to be a publishing home for developing and established songwriters and producers, resulting in collaborations on hits such as “Starships” (Nicki Minaj), “Live While We’re Young” (One Direction), “On the Floor” (Jennifer Lopez), “Who’s That Chick” (David Guetta and Rihanna), and “Rain Over Me” (Pitbull and Marc Anthony).

In 2012, ole acquired RedOne’s fellow creative Timbaland’s music publishing catalogue. Since then it’s snapped up numerous assets including music publishing catalogues from Rush and from Sony Pictures.

“ole is very pleased to have been chosen by RedOne to cultivate such a great catalog of songs written by great songwriters,” said David Weitzman, Vice President of Business Development at ole. “ole will work hard to honor and promote this body of work.”

“I am impressed with ole’s commitment to working its catalogs and finding new opportunities for its songs,” said RedOne. “I appreciate their independent spirit, and I am excited to partner with them on the catalog so we can continue to deliver more opportunities for 2101 Songs writers.”

Since being founded in 2004, ole has now made investments of over $350M in music intellectual property. With operations in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles, its catalogue includes over 45,000 songs and 60,000 hours of TV and film music across all genres.

Copyrights under ole’s control include songs recorded by artists such as the Backstreet Boys, Beyoncé, Blake Shelton, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Eric Church, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Madonna, Michael Jackson, One Direction, Rihanna, Rush, Taylor Swift, and Timbaland.

ole also controls substantial A/V music and secondary rights including catalogs from Sony Pictures Entertainment, DHX, MGM, Miramax, Nelvana and Nu Image/Millennium. MusicBox, the Production Music division of ole, provides quality content and service to creators in all media with over 150,000 tracks in its library.Music Business Worldwide
