Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album Sour (Geffen) continues to smash records three years after its release.

Released on May 21, 2021, the LP scored the biggest debut of the year at the time of its release and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist in Spotify history with over 385 million global streams.

Now, Geffen Records has confirmed that Sour has become the all-time highest-streaming album by a female artist on Spotify.

The album has been streamed over 12.3 billion times on Spotify to date.

Rodrigo’s first single from Sour – drivers license – became one of the biggest hits of 2021, achieving 76 million US streams in its first week and debuting at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for eight weeks.

The song also earned the largest global weekly streaming debut on Spotify and became the first track to surpass 1 billion global streams in 2021.

According to Chartmetric data analyzed by MBW, drivers license has been streamed over 2.16 billion times on Spotify to date and is averaging over 935,000 streams daily as of May 21 (see below).

Six of the 11 tracks on Sour have surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify to date, while two have surpassed 2 billion on the platform.

The second most-streamed track from the album on Spotify is Good 4 U, which has been streamed over 2.15 billion times on the platform to date, according to Chartmetric data analyzed by MBW (see below).

In addition to becoming RIAA Certified Gold in its first week back in 2021, all 11 tracks from Sour landed in the Top 30 of the US Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first female artist and the fourth act overall to simultaneously chart 11 or more songs in the Top 30.

Sour also became the fastest album in history to have all of its songs certified RIAA Platinum or higher.

At a concert in London over the weekend, Rodrigo commented on the news of Sour becoming the most-streamed album by a female artist on Spotify.

“I found out the other day … that [Sour] is the most streamed album by a female artist on Spotify. And that is literally all because of you. I cannot thank you guys enough,” Rodrigo told the audience at the show.

Rodrigo added at the concert that she “made [Sour] in my bedroom and my producer’s garage, and I had no expectation of anyone other than my mom and my closest friends listening to it. But as it turns out, lots of people related to the feelings that I was talking about on that album.”
