Negla Abdela promoted to Managing Director at Ministry of Sound in the UK

Sony Music UK has promoted Negla Abdela to Managing Director at Ministry of Sound.

Abdela joined Ministry of Sound in 2015 as Social Media Manager, before being promoted to Head of Digital in 2018, then to General Manager in 2021.

She has been responsible for managing the marketing and digital teams, working across the label’s roster to deliver multi-platinum-selling single and album campaigns.

Sony Music UK says that Abdela has played a central role in Ministry of Sound’s success since joining in 2015 and has “helped to drive exponential growth, increasing market share across every measure year-on-year”.

The label has achieved a string of multi-platinum hits from artists including Paul Woolford, Ewan McVicar, Riton and Majestic as well as successfully spearheading global campaigns for domestic talent such as Regard, London Grammar and Sigala.

The team has also achieved success with international artists including Doja Cat, Tate McRae and Lil Durk.

Negla Abdela sits on Sony Music UK’s Social Justice Fund steering committee and is the Co-Executive Sponsor for Sony Music’s internal Diversity committee HUE (Helping Unite Everyone).

Earlier this year Abdela featured on Empower’s 2023 Role Model List, which showcases individuals who are advocating for people of colour within the workplace.

In other recent Ministry of Sound news, Dipesh Parmar was promoted to President, Columbia Records UK in December, alongside Amy Wheatley, who was appointed Managing Director.

Parmar and Wheatley both joined Columbia Records UK from Ministry Of Sound, where Parmar was previously President and Wuniheatley was previously MD.

Ministry Of Sound became a subsidiary of Columbia Records UK following these changes.

Sony Music acquired the London-based Ministry Of Sound label for approximately GBP £67 million in 2016.

In January, British DJ and producer Anton Powers was named Head of A&R at Sony Music-owned Ministry of Sound Records in London.Music Business Worldwide
