Music creation marketplace Splice has set up a strategic advisory board consisting of artists, entrepreneurs and music executives from various territories.

According to Splice, the advisors for its new Global Music Council (GMC) “were hand-picked to provide diverse perspectives, and an artist’s lens, on expanding access to Splice’s music creation platform around the world”.

The launch of the advisory board follows the news in February of the platform’s $55 million Series D funding round, which was led by Glodman Sachs GS Growth.

The Global Music Council (GMC), will be Chaired by Caron Veazey, Founder and CEO of Something in Common and Co-Founder and Vice Chair of the Black Music Action Coalition, which launched in June 2020.

In this inaugural role, according to Splice, Veazey and the other council members “will help Splice identify trends and opportunities to support under-represented music-makers worldwide”.

Splice says that its new Council will also advise on advancements for the platform’s “music education and collaboration products, and cultural trends” to shape Splice Sounds (Splice’s library of more than 2 million pre-cleared samples).

Other  members of Splice’s Global Music Council include:

  • Mr Eazi, Nigerian artist and founder of artist incubator EmPawa Africa
  • Imogen Heap, Grammy Award-winning musician and Creative Passport Co-Founder
  • Hussain ‘Spek’ Yoosuf, founder of PopArabia and the newly launched Middle Eastern PRO ESMAA
  • Mathew Daniel, China-based DJ and Vice President International of NetEase Cloud Music
  • Ebonie Smith, Atlantic Studios Lead Engineer and Gender Amplified Founder; and Sebastian Krys, 2x Latin Grammy Producer of the Year winner and founder of President/CEO of Rebeleon Entertainment.

The council will report to Chief Music Officer Maria Egan, who joined in the company in 2020, alongside internal representation from CEO/Co-Founder Steve Martocci, General Manager/Chief Content Officer Dan Zaccagnino and Board Member Matt Pincus.
