Megan Thee Stallion has signed a distribution partnership with Interscope Records.

The agreement moves distribution of her music to a Universal Music Group label, two and a half years after she struck a comparable deal with Warner Music Group.

Megan retains complete ownership of her masters and publishing, and will keep releasing music through her own company, Hot Girl Productions.

The partnership was announced on Friday (August 14) and covers global distribution and strategic support for her upcoming releases, according to a press release issued by Megan Thee Stallion.

“I’ve always wanted to create music on my terms while building a legacy that extends beyond the industry,” said Megan.

“This distribution partnership with Interscope allows me to stay true to my creative vision while also increasing my global reach.

“I’m excited for this next chapter of growth and the expansion of my Hot Girl Productions empire.”

The star’s previous distribution home was Warner Music Group, which signed its own agreement with her in February 2024.

That deal also ran through Hot Girl Productions and left her holding her masters, her publishing, and creative control over her releases.

“From the moment Megan emerged, it was clear she was a singular artist with an unmistakable voice and an extraordinary ability to shape culture on her own terms,” said Steve Berman, Vice Chairman of Interscope Capitol.

“She has consistently redefined what it means to be a global superstar – combining creative excellence, entrepreneurial vision and an uncompromising authenticity,” Berman continued.

“We’re honored to welcome Megan to the Interscope family and excited to partner with Roc Nation as we support her next chapter.”

“We’re honored to welcome Megan to the Interscope family and excited to partner with Roc Nation as we support her next chapter.”

The Roc Nation reference in Berman’s statement points to the company that has managed Megan since 2019.

Megan has always approached her career with a focus on ownership, creative freedom and long-term impact,” said Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez.

“The ability to maintain her independence and own her masters is a testament to the vision that has guided her career from the beginning.

“We look forward to working together with Interscope‘s team and tapping into their global resources to further elevate this new era of her career.”

That management relationship sits at the origin of Megan’s independence, which followed more than three years of litigation with 1501 Certified Entertainment, the Houston label she signed to in 2018.

She sued 1501 in 2020 over a contract she has described as “unconscionable.” She has said she only understood its terms after signing with Roc Nation and engaging new lawyers.

A further case, filed in February 2022, turned on whether her 2021 release Something for Thee Hotties qualified as an album under a contract that required three of them.

1501 countersued, putting the volume of new material on that record at 29 minutes, and Megan filed a separate claim in August 2022 seeking damages above USD $1 million.

Attorneys for 1501 announced a confidential settlement on October 19, 2023, with the two sides agreeing to go their separate ways. Neither party disclosed whether money changed hands.

Megan has topped the Billboard Hot 100 three times: with the Beyoncé remix of Savage and with Cardi B‘s WAP in 2020, and with HISS in 2024.

HISS was her first chart-topper as a solo act, and it reached No. 1 in the opening week of the Warner arrangement, having been released through Hot Girl Productions the week before that deal was announced.

Two singles have arrived since Megan: Act II. Whenever followed her Coachella sets in April 2025, and Lover Girl came that October.

Lover Girl debuted at No. 38, returning rap to the Hot 100’s top 40 after a two-week gap that Billboard reported was the genre’s first absence from that section of the chart since February 1990.

Neither track has been confirmed for Act III, the working title for her next album and her first album since Megan: Act II in October 2024.

Megan teased that record on Monday (August 10) with images of the words “Act III” and “I’m back” written across her back, posted to Instagram and X.

Speaking on the IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson podcast, published on Wednesday (August 12), Megan said the album would reintroduce her Tina Snow alter ego.

“Tina is grown now, babe,” said Megan.

“She has been through lots of life since y’all heard from her last, and I have so many collaborations that I feel like the Hotties have been asking me for.”

She went on to name “collaborations that’ll shock the people” among them, and said Megan: Act III ranked with her favorite projects because of the time she had put into it, per iHeartRadio.

Megan is not the only former Warner Music Group act to have moved toward Interscope this year.

Ed Sheeran confirmed his exit from WMG in May after 15 years, and was reported in July to be signing with Interscope.Music Business Worldwide
