MBW launches Label Of The Month

Music Business Worldwide is launching a new monthly feature celebrating the very best record labels in existence – supported by the good folks at Creative Commission.

A companion to our popular Manager Of The Month articles, Label Of The Month will regularly highlight the winning work of both major and independent music companies around the globe.

The first recipient of the accolade will be Columbia UK, which has recently fostered huge domestically-signed successes such as George Ezra, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson and The Script – selling 8m albums globally across the latest records from these four artists alone.

MBW will publish an interview with the label’s joint heads, Alison Donald and Mark Terry, later this month, delving into a culture and mindset which has propelled their Columbia acts to such noteworthy heights.

“Congratulations to columbia records UK. They are very deserving recipients, particularly with their impressive recent sales figures.”

Said Music Business Worldwide editor Tim Ingham: “Only the very best labels have properly adapted to the online age of burgeoning artist power and non-stop fanbase activity.

“These companies have harnessed the opportunities of an ever-changing music business, while treating creative talent with respect. It will be a pleasure to share their vision with the MBW readership.”

A company that knows a thing or two about working with great labels, Creative Commission, is a music briefs service that connects record companies, managers and artists with a community of creative talent across video, design, photography and digital.

The co-founder of Creative Commission, Nick Clark, said: “We’re delighted to support MBW with Label Of The Month and we’re looking forward to seeing some of the very best record companies in the world recognised.

“Congratulations to Alison, Mark and the whole team at Columbia Records. They are very deserving recipients, particularly when you consider their highly impressive recent sales figures.”Music Business Worldwide
