Marketing agency Blackstar London launches

Marketing exec Olivia Hobbs has launched UK-based creative, marketing and digital consultancy Blackstar London after spending eight years at Universal Music Group.

Blackstar will specialise in building authentic creative campaigns for artists, marketing and global digital strategy with creative and art direction.

Hobbs was most recently Senior Marketing Manager at Fiction Records.

She joined UMG in 2010 at Polydor where she was Digital Marketing Manager, working on campaigns for Haim, Nine Inch Nails and Eminem, before moving over to Fiction Records, home of Tame Impala and The Cure.

Notable artist campaigns Hobbs worked on at Fiction include Mercury nominated Kate Tempest, who is nominated for a 2018 BRIT Award as British Female Solo Artist, and The Amazons, who hit No.8 on the UK charts with their debut album in 2017.

“After eight years with Universal Music it was time to let my entrepreneurial flag fly.

“Independent consultants are fast becoming the new normal in this business, especially as artists increasingly turn to label services models and self releasing.

“I couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter at blackstar!”

Discussing her new venture, Hobbs said: “After eight years with Universal Music it was time to let my entrepreneurial flag fly.

“I had such a great time with Polydor and Fiction Records, and through them, have been privileged enough to have worked with some of my favourite artists and lifelong heroes.

“At Blackstar, I’ll be pulling together my network of freelance expertise from all areas of the business in order to build reliable teams that get the job done and share knowledge.

“Independent consultants are fast becoming the new normal in this business, especially as artists increasingly turn to label services models and self releasing. I couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter!”

Hobbs started her career in the music business at promoter LHG Live, before taking on production and live booking roles at Music Sales Group and Glasswerk.

She has also worked as an artist and producer manager for bands like To Kill A King, BJ Jackson and songwriter Ralph Pelleymounter.
