Marathon Music Group & Tileyard London unveil new round of ‘Music Discovery’ businesses for ‘LABs’ start-up mentoring program

Marathon Music Group has announced details of five companies that will be the latest to participate in its mentoring program, Marathon Labs.

The new cohort is themed around music discovery and will benefit from a series of business development sessions and networking events, hosted at London’s Tileyard.

The five new companies participating in Marathon Labs, which starts at the end of March, are:

Musiio

An AI company focused on the B2B space, Musiio makes large catalogues of music infinitely more searchable for, amongst others, sync companies, labels and streaming services.

Know What’s Loved

Using RAD/AR (Robotic Automated Discovery for Artists & Repertoire), Know What’s Loved claims to bring artist discovery into the digital age via AI-bots that tease out trends as they’re happening and uncover artists at their earliest stages.

MySphera

MySphera claims to be a matchmaker between tastemakers and music creators, connecting music to engaged audiences via trusted curators in a data-driven and automated way.

Remixology

Remixology has created a proprietary platform and suite of tools that streamlines the remix commissioning process and provides rightsholders with insights and recommendations powered by bespoke algorithms.

Cyanite

Cyanite applies deep learning to music information retrieval to allow A&Rs and playlist curators filter large amounts of music – and help artists pitch their music to the right people.

Marathon Artists’ COO and Program Director Tanguy Giraud (pictured), said: “We believe new tools are going to considerably help and support the A&R in the future.

“Also, Marathon Music Group being involved in recorded music and early stage artist development, we have a vested interest to develop relationships with cutting edge companies that can help us scout and support early stage artist careers.”

“We believe new tools are going to considerably help and support the A&R in the future.”

Tanguy Giraud, Marathon Artists

Expanding on what makes Marathon Labs different to other programs, he added: “As we focus on business development we look for companies that are a little bit more mature than the traditional ‘accelerator’ stage company.

“By that I mean, we tend to look for companies with a commercial product already released and recurring revenues in place, or a proven product-market fit in a media outside the music industry.

“We also like working with companies that are funded for at least the mid-term which allows them to really focus on the business development component.

“The real value add resides in our ability to tap into a considerable network of music executives with an appetite for innovation.

“Those music professionals attend our LABs session to meet and listen to all of the entrepreneur’s pitches. In a short time the startups are able to seize opportunities coming from all angles of our industry and we help them navigate the process and provide support to nurture those opportunities.”

“Like Marathon, we believe in supporting good ideas and look forward to welcoming this year’s cohort into our thriving community.”

Dan Rainey, Tileyard

Dan Rainey, Head of Events, Marketing & Partnerships at Tileyard, said: “It’s an exciting opportunity for Tileyard London to support Marathon Music Group in developing opportunities for LAB’s selected companies, who are tackling some fascinating questions in the industry with innovative technology and original thinking.

“Like Marathon, we believe in supporting good ideas and look forward to welcoming this year’s cohort into our thriving community.”
