She Is The Music (SITM), a global nonprofit focused on gender equality and increasing the number of women working in the music industry, has named Laura Segura as Executive Director.
Segura joins SITM after spending five years at MusiCares, another nonprofit that provides crisis relief and need-based financial assistance for people in the music industry.
At MusiCares, Segura led relief initiatives that distributed more than $51 million to music professionals. She oversaw the organization’s distribution of $35.7 million in pandemic relief and another $16 million in relief during the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
Beyond relief efforts, Segura expanded MusiCares’ operating budget and updated internal systems. She helped establish the Humans of Hip Hop grant program and launched the annual Wellness in Music research project.
She also created The Day That Music Cares, a volunteer program, and developed support specifically targeting women’s mental health and caregiving needs.
Before MusiCares, Segura spent time at the Recording Academy as Vice President of Membership & Industry Relations. There, she revised membership qualifications, reorganized chapter structures, and led the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force focused on creating opportunities for women.
Pollstar named her to its Women of Live list this year and its Impact 50 in 2021. Billboard has featured her multiple times in its Women in Music: Top Executives rankings. She currently sits on the housing board for the Entertainment Community Fund.
At SITM, Segura will oversee the organization’s global programs and partnerships. The organization counts Grammy-winning artist Alicia Keys, Universal Music Publishing Group Chairman and CEO Jody Gerson, Grammy-winning engineer Ann Mincieli, and Sam Kirby Yoh (Partner & Co-Head of Global Music, UTA), among its co-founders.
SITM maintains a global database of women music creators and runs programs connecting emerging professionals with established industry figures.
“Laura understands the challenges women face in this industry and brings the strength, clarity, and compassion needed to create real, lasting change.”

The organization says Segura will oversee and expand SITM’s core initiatives including its all-women songwriting camps, global creator database, mentorship cohorts, research and advocacy work, and community partnerships across labels, publishers, studios, management companies, DSPs and educational institutions.
Segura will also oversee day-to-day operations and serve as a key spokesperson and advocate for SITM’s mission globally.
Alicia Keys said: “I’m so proud to welcome Laura into this role. She has spent her career lifting people up, building support systems that work, and making sure no one is left behind — and that spirit is at the heart of She Is The Music.”
“Laura understands the challenges women face in this industry and brings the strength, clarity, and compassion needed to create real, lasting change. I know she will help us push our mission even further, opening more doors, elevating more voices, and building a future where women are fully seen, heard, and supported.”
“Laura brings a rare combination of vision, experience, and genuine care for the people who make this industry what it is.”
