LANDR launches Creator tool, enabling ‘almost infinite’ number of sounds for producers

Canada-based LANDR has been shaking up the audio production space for some time now, notably with the launch of LANDR Selector, its AI-powered sample recommendation tool, last year.

LANDR, which raised $26m in Series B funding last July, currently offers music-makers a database of over a million sounds within its extensive LANDR Samples database.

Yet that number, says the company, has just been effectively transformed into “almost infinite possibilities” thanks to its latest tool, Creator.

According to LANDR, Creator – another AI-powered innovation – allows producers and artists of any skill level to quickly preview up to eight loops together for online playback.

As loops are selected, they are automatically pitch-adjusted and time-stretched to match the chosen key and tempo.

“Our goal with any new feature is to help producers do what they are best at, make creative decisions,” said LANDR CEO, Pascal Pilon. “The addition of Creator to the samples platform streamlines sound selection for pros and helps aspiring artists to quickly sketch ideas for a track without having to download and manipulate individual sounds.

“Our algorithm analyzes each sample and decides the best ratios for time stretching and pitch shifting, making quick, musical matches.”

LANDR currently services a music-making community of over 3 million people, with its Samples database covering genres from hip-hop and electronic to world music, SFX, opera and beyond.

Creator is currently in Beta, while the LANDR development team gathers feedback. The company plans to fully launch the product in July.

Pilon said: “When Creator is paired with the AI recommendation power of LANDR Selector, artists of all skill levels can build a sonic sketch to be finished in the DAW [Digital Audio Workstation] of their choice.

“When Creator is paired with the AI recommendation power of LANDR Selector…there is no feasible limit to the number of unique combinations that could happen.”

“As a producer makes their creative choices, there is no feasible limit to the number of unique combinations that could happen.”

Creator joins a suite of artist-servicing tools at LANDR. In addition to its Samples database, the company also offers distribution of music to streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, in addition to rent-to-own plugins, plus mastering and social promotion tools.

Artists associated with the LANDR Samples database include Havoc, Cassius Jay, Bink!, Dirty Projectors, Alan Parsons, Chris Leibing, Pan Pot and more.

“Beyond our large catalog of high quality samples in all genres, we built LANDR Samples to help producers find the right sound at the right time,” said Pilon.

“We have an expanding suite of AI powered creative tools to help artists of any skill level spend more time creating and less time browsing.”

He added: “Our team of curators stay close to our community of over 3 million music creators to understand what they’re looking for and expect from samples in their workflow.

“We also maintain relationships with a large network of the best independent sample producers, labels and artists we like and tune our catalog accordingly.

“Most of the samples in our catalog today came from LANDR identifying and approaching partners directly but we will, over time, introduce a submission system to expand the number of artists contributing to our catalog.”Music Business Worldwide
