Keith Flint of The Prodigy dies aged 49

Keith Flint of British electronic dance group The Prodigy has died aged 49.

The star (pictured, centre) was found dead at his home in Dunmow, Essex on Monday morning (March 4), with the band confirming that he took his own life over the weekend.

The hugely influential British act was founded by Liam Howlett in 1990, with Flint acting as the group’s primary dancer and singer, providing vocals for iconic 1996 No.1 hit singles Firestarter and Breathe.

The Prodigy has had six UK No.1 albums in total, with the most recent being 2018’s No Tourists (via Take Me To The Hospital). The first was Music for the Jilted Generation (XL) in 1994.

The news was confirmed by the band via Twitter earlier today, writing that the “true pioneer” will be “forever missed”.

“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint.

A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed.

“We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Writing on the official Prodigy Instagram account, band-mate Liam Howlett added: “The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend.

“I’m shell shocked, fuckin angry, confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brother Liam.”

The Prodigy became the first dance band to headline Glastonbury Festival in 1997 and, writing in a post on Instagram, Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis called Flint “an incredible frontman” who “gave us so much life and energy”.

Eavis added that the Prodigy were booked to play at this year’s festival.

The band were also scheduled to tour the US and Europe this year.Music Business Worldwide
