Karol G was the most-viewed artist globally on Vevo in 2021, with 3.11bn views

Following the news that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny was Spotify‘s most-streamed artist in the world in 2021, today we learn that fellow Reggaeton star Karol G was the most-viewed artist globally on Vevo this year.

Karol G tops the most-viewed artist chart of 2021 globally on the music video platform with 3.11 billion views.

The Weeknd came in a close second, with 3.10 billion global views.

Ariana Grande achieved the third-most views on the platform globally, with 2.47bn.

In the US, Lil Baby is Vevo’s most-viewed artist of this past year with 770 million views, followed again by The Weeknd with 558 million views.

Doja Cat and Lil Nas X were two of Vevo’s most popular artists, both appearing as newcomers on this year’s top ten most-viewed artist list.

Both in the US and worldwide, Lil Nas X took the top spot in the Vevo Engagement Chart, which ranks videos according to the most likes, shares and comments across the Vevo network.

Montero (Call Me By Your Name) was No.1, with Industry Baby featuring Jack Harlow taking second place.

Vevo attributed Lil Nas X’s success to his “consistently creative releases and imaginative marketing efforts,” such as his sneaker launch in partnership with art collective MSCHF.

The modified Nike Air Max 97 trainers helped drive the viewership of Lil Nas X music videos six-fold, says Vevo.

Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo also grew her viewership 8-fold to 357 million views in the US in 2021.

Elsewhere, Vevo says that it saw Adele’s catalog trending following the announcement of her new studio album, 30, with a ten-fold lift in views, and her single Easy On Me became the No.7 most-engaged-with Vevo music video of 2021 in the US.

After the news of their first new album in 40 years, ABBA’s hits such as Dancing Queen and Take a Chance on Me saw a 170% lift in US in US views.

In November, Taylor Swift’s catalog also jumped 5x as she released All Too Well (Taylor’s Version), the first 10-minute song to reach No.1 on Billboard Hot 100.

“In 2021, fan consumption and engagement with music videos continued to yield many insights about the vital nature of the music video.”
