Johnny Katovsich joins Ninja Tune’s global sync team in Los Angeles

Award-winning independent label Ninja Tune has hired Johnny Katovsich to join its global sync team.

Katovsich has built a successful career in music supervision at Fox Cable Networks, Viacom and Lionsgate Films.

Based in L.A, he makes the switch from supervision to label, and will become part of Ninja Tune’s eight-person-strong worldwide sync team.

Katovsich will represent artists such as Bonobo, ODESZA, Young Fathers, The Heavy, Amon Tobin, Peggy Gou, Bicep, Fink, RAC, What So Not and Laurel, for syncs in TV, film and trailers.

Katovsich began his music supervision career working for Tri Tone music on movies such as Jackie Brown, Never Been Kissed, Clay Pigeons, Forces of Nature and more.

At Viacom he oversaw music supervision for reality television, promo and marketing for MTV, and prior to that he ran the music department for the action sports TV channel FUEL TV for Fox Cable Networks.

“After exporting some of our best sync minds from the UK to take on the US scene, being joined by one of L.A’s most experienced and liked supervisors is a huge deal for our expanding US operation.”

Talking about his move to Ninja Tune, Katovsich said “I am thrilled and honored to join the Ninja Tune team. I can’t wait to help build on their incredible legacy. I’ve been drawn to the independently constructed, forward thinking label and artists for decades.

“The music minds and culture creators on the squad have been putting in wonderful work and the current roster shows it. I’m excited to observe and support the ever changing moves of Bonobo, genre defiant Young Fathers, the other worldly imagination of Thundercat and the rest of the Ninja approved sounds past and present. The future crew is impressive too, with Helena Hauff, the beautiful soul of Conner Youngblood, the always strong Bicep and so much more to explore.”

Katovsich runs the charitable music supervisor showcase / fundraiser Social Service.

The event has featured dozens of artists such as Broken Social Scene, Lord Huron, Aloe Blacc, Badbadnotgood, The Kooks and more, and has raised money for charities like Planned Parenthood, the American Red Cross and Everytown.

Ninja Tune’s head of Worldwide sync, Martin Dobson, adds “Having Johnny come on board is an absolute pleasure. After exporting some of our best sync minds from the UK to take on the US scene, being joined by one of L.A’s most experienced and liked supervisors is a huge deal for our expanding US operation.

“Johnny brings with him a huge list of clients who he can genuinely call his friends and a knowledge of Film and TV that’s hard to equal. Having him join our team, work with our established artists, newly signed musicians at the start of their careers and all those in between is very very exciting – see you at the next Social Service!”
