The A Side: A Day in The Life
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Priorities, the Senior Marketing Manager is responsible for the management of artist projects on UMG’s Global artist program, a central program that represents artists from all of UMG’s major repertoire centres around the world including Interscope, Republic, Island, Def Jam, Capitol in the US, to Polydor and EMI and Island records in the UK. This role also includes International project management of UMG’s Partner Labels, Moonbug Music Entertainment and Sugar Music.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Collaborative
- Management of assigned artist projects and tracks under the UMG Global artist program alongside department colleagues in Los Angeles
- Working closely with repertoire owners & International markets on artist strategy and project rollout
- Amplifying artist success on a global level while breaking new acts within international markets
- Driving the project’s success, through management of International marketing plans, creative ideation and negotiation with stakeholders
- The ability and experience to identifying project’s strengths and weaknesses and find creative solutions
Be Commercial
- Strong knowledge of the streaming space and playlisting, with a focus on global DSPs such as Spotify and Apple Music, Amazon & YouTube services.
- Working closely with the Global Commercial team on streaming and playlisting insights
- Knowledge of the DSP playlisting ecosystem, analysing playlisting and creating playlist targets and opportunities
Be Digital
- Together with the global media planning team, running digital campaigns for priority tracks and projects, working on strategic International allocation of media spend on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram based on analysing the data performance in trending markets
- Social media/TikTok/ YouTube native, integrating influencer and lifestyle marketing into International digital campaigns and maintaining a good knowledge of key players and trends within this influencer/creator space
- Following UGC trends on platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and identifying tracks through data early
Be Analytical
- The role requires an ability to understand emerging patterns, trends and data, to operate at speed recognising what tools are required for propelling track success, while leveraging various stakeholders in order to deliver this
- Closely monitoring data and performance of UMG tracks and projects through various internal and external data tools
- Ability to pull relevant statistics and trends for key priority projects to inform global strategy
Partner Labels, Moonbug Music Entertainment + Sugar Music
Be Collaborative
- International project management of Moonbug Entertainment kids’ brands, including Cocomelon & Blippi
- International project management of Sugar Music’s Italian artist roster
- Managing the relationship with these partner labels, focusing on the International rollout and localisation of their music products
- Identifying strategic opportunities to grow their artists and brands Internationally, finding local market opportunities and developing creative ideas
- Collaborating with UMG commercial teams on playlisting and pitching to DSPs
- Working closely with the supply chain team for planning and scheduling digital and physical product (when applicable) Internationally
- Other partner label projects may be assigned as and when they come into the department
UMG Repertoire Centres (Rest of World)
- Staying up to date with the latest key releases with export potential from around the world including non-English repertoire
- Identifying commercial and creative opportunities to develop these artists further across multiple markets worldwide
Person Specification
Necessary
- Experience at a Marketing Manager level within a major music label, with a track record of marketing priority frontline releases
- Experience operating in an International environment with an awareness of cultural sensitivities and nuances
- Must be fully immersed in music and popular culture, a digital native with keen understanding of current youth trends
- Highly creative & innovative thinker. Proven experience of identifying and developing strategic opportunities, suggesting alternative approaches and coming up with new ideas
- Experience interpreting and acting upon all the relevant data and insight around an artist’s digital and streaming performance
- Thorough understanding of social media and digital marketing platforms.
- Established relationship-building and management skills with the ability to deal with creative individuals with diplomacy. Persuasive and influential when engaging with internal and external stakeholders
- Successful experience in negotiating with high profile characters (artists, artist management, internal stakeholders and senior management)
- Excellent presentation skills to sell ideas and insights to wider company, stakeholders, and senior management
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
