The Director, Label Merchandising oversees the provision of merchandise, VIP experiences, licensing and presale ticketing for an assigned label group. The position is based at UMG HQ in Santa Monica.
This person will be responsible for delivering, unique and brand relevant product and merchandising offerings for multiple artists across the label via retail, tour, direct to consumer and licensing opportunities.
These offerings will be unique to each artist and will generate significant sales, margin and profits across the year, including key touring dates, album release dates, key seasons and holidays as well as general “off cycle” marketing of the consumer brand.

Job functions
- Own the development and evolution of the merchandising program for each artist signed to the label
- Liaise with label and artist management to develop tour merchandise offerings resulting in best revenue opportunities
- Maintain artist Direct to Consumer presences including development of Direct to Consumer -only products, timing of new product launches and design and manufacture pre-order bundles
- Work with label and artist management to develop VIP experiences (like acoustic performances, meet and greets, etc. )
- Identify and commercialize licensing opportunities for artists
- Liaise with the touring department to forecast and project all aspects of an artist’s tour merchandising program including production budget, staff budget, transportation logistics and scheduling
- Liaise with the production department to Coordinate production, logistics and shipping for retail, touring and Direct to Consumer orders
- Develop relationships with key retailers (Hot Topic, Spencers, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 etc.) and work with them to approve products and create unique marketing experiences
- Communicate daily with production and sales team to coordinate production and deliveries
- Communicate daily with artists representatives to coordinate deliveries
- Track and process department purchase orders
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise one or two people as department develops.
Job requirements
Skills/Abilities:
- Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
- Great communication skills, written and oral, interpersonal and group settings
- Highly organized
- Creative and able to think out of the box
- Analytical and understands business revenue models
Experience:
- At least 3 years in marketing/merchandise areas of entertainment business, preferably music
- 2 years in managing specialty customers and a team of people
Education:
- At least BA or 4 years of college
