The Musical Company in New York is seeking a Director Of Accounting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all accounting functions of the business, including financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, internal controls, tax, and audit.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Reconcile monthly receipts and book any adjustments
  • Perform reconciliations on various balance sheet accounts and research variance
  • Management of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Create monthly Licensing, Publishing, and Recorded Music income reports and distribute to appropriate staff
  • Calculate monthly royalty accrual
  • Determine any issues with reconciliation variance in royalties
  • Financial Close & Financial Reporting
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure company is GAAP compliant
  • Assist with preparation of support schedules for annual financial audit
  • Assist with preparation of support schedules for tax filings

Outline of Specific Functions:

Financial Close Process

  • Maintain company financials and run monthly close process
  • Review and ensure that proper supporting schedules exist for all required balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Prepare budget to actual comparisons on a monthly basis and explain variances
  • Prepare quarterly licensing royalties statements
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting as required

Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable management

  • Work with SugarCRM and other systems to track and report on AR/AP for processing
  • Liaise with parent companies’ accounting departments to track and report royalties

GAAP compliance

  • Review trial balance is ensure that company is GAAP compliant
  • Ensure company has process memos supporting operations & accounting process, and that such processes are GAAP compliant
  • Research FASB, EITFs and other accounting regulations as necessary and prepare memos as appropriate to support company’s GAAP position

Audit preparation & management

  • Review general ledger detail for potential audit issues
  • Prepare all financials disclosures and notes to financial statements
  • Assist CEO with questions & requests from CFOs and external auditors

Tax support preparation

  • Assist with preparation of support schedules for external tax preparers

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business with a minimum of 5 years of experience, including royalties and entertainment business; Masters and/or CPA preferred
  • Strong GAAP and accounting knowledge with ability to research accounting issues
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Excel; QuickBooks, MAS 500, SAP, and/or Vistex Counterpoint/Maestro experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • General knowledge of and interest in music and/or theatre
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to interact and coordinate activities with multiple people and departments
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • A professional, respectful, pleasant and friendly demeanor
  • Good judgment, particularly with respect to confidential matters
