The MLC – Royalty Finance Analyst (US)

THE ROLE

In this role, you are responsible for supporting the Finance team’s royalty processing, reporting and reconciling for DSPs and Members of The MLC. You are a self-starter with strong project management skills and a keen attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • Three years music industry experience in a royalty finance role with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or five years with a different degree
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high productivity environment with tight deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a start-up where you will help define the process
  • Experience working independently with the ability to multitask
  • System savvy and expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel (i.e., V-Lookup, If-Then statements, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Experience working in roles requiring high analytical ability, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills
  • Resourceful, flexible, and demonstrates exceptional teamwork skills
  • Ability to identify and escalate situations effectively
  • Willingness to work overtime if necessary, to meet deadlines
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
YOU WILL DRIVE FORWARD KEY ROYALTY FINANCE PROCESSES AND REPORTING BY:
  • Participating in the MLC royalty cycle through analysis of data at critical points in the process starting with ingestion of the data through to issuance of statements and payments to our Members
  • Reviewing the monthly Digital Service Provider (DSP) royalty rate calculations from the royalty system for reasonableness and accuracy
  • Preparing and maintaining analytical reports to support the invoicing of DSPs
  • Analyzing large volumes of data and sample data throughout the process for anomalies
  • Reviewing and analyzing individual and consolidated distribution reports by DSP and Member by reconciling reports back to invoiced amounts and by ensuring Member amounts are reasonable and accurate
  • Making sure the opening balance by Member ties to the closing balance by publisher from the previous month
  • Checking the interest calculation on reprocessing of unmatched and on hold amounts or unpayable balances is calculated in accordance with the statute
YOU WILL SUPPORT CRITICAL ROYALTY FINANCE PROCESSES AND REPORTING BY:
  • Supporting the reconciliation of the funding amount to the distribution reports to contribute to the approval of payments to our Members
  • Reviewing the Member statements report and reconcile it to the funding report
  • Tracking the unmatched and on hold activity and balances by DSP
  • Documenting the review process and continually looking for ways to improve and make it more efficient
  • Providing details to finance and accounting to support the royalty balances in the general ledger
  • Other analysis that may be identified as the process evolves
