We are seeking an experienced Copyright Lead to keep SoundCloud copyright infringement-free by enabling rights holders to exercise their rights and educate our community regarding copyright in a digital environment.

This role is based in Berlin, Germany.

You will head and manage the Copyright Operations team who manage SoundCloud’s copyright processes in order to maintain legal compliance, support rightsholders and ensure the sustainability of our business.

You will help devise internal policies and processes relating to SoundCloud. This will include collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop operational procedures, user facing policy and internal compliance guidelines. This involves a deep understanding of copyright law and regulations especially as it relates to digital streaming space. It also requires an intricate grasp of how our content delivery and content identification systems operate.

A significant focus will also be on creating and improving resources and tools for the Copyright operations team to best handle the operational volume of copyright protection and enablement. Often this will be in the form of process improvement or CMS implementations.

The role will also require leading and implementing team strategy and planning in line with company objectives.

Relationships are key and you will be expected to forge and maintain them with a variety of our rightsholder partners. We rely on involvement from these rightsholders and must be sure to facilitate that engagement whilst advising appropriately on company policy and legal compliance.

On top of this, you will ensure compliance across the platform to maintain legal requirements and safe harbor privileges. This will involve consulting with a wide variety of teams and departments within the organisation on best practises and risk assessments.

This also comes with a requirement to report regularly to external and internal stakeholders on the impact of copyright throughout the platform as well as how this relates to individual rightsholders.

Ideally you have an operational, legal or project management background, and are experienced in leading a team. You understand digital rights and the music industry and have a grasp on copyright law and regulations. You can manage stakeholders and drive process improvement. You want to help creators protect their rights and understand the importance of risk assessment.
