Sony Music UK – Director, Commercial Finance (UK)

Reporting to VP Finance, this a maternity contract leading the finance team within our Commercial division.

**Please note this is a 12 month maternity contract**

  • Full responsibility for P&L – accountability for P&L , responsibility for all forecasting, budgeting and support to Senior Management in delivering budgeted profit for the year. Including control of all costs and maximising revenue
  • Key Finance representative at all relevant meetings – ensure that finance has a presence in all meeting relevant to the divisions supported and in all decision making with financial implications. This will include attendance at department meetings; Head’s Of meetings; forecasting and budgeting meetings; and management review meetings.
  • Review & Analysis of distribution & Manufacturing costs – including ownership of standard costs, budgets and forecasts. Analysis of key variance to standard costs, analysis of product cost/price relationship.
  • Review of distribution invoices received from Sony DADC for accuracy. Analysis of stock obsolesce costs and identification of opportunities for over-stock sales.
  • Responsible for Now That’s What I Call Music forecasting and actuals. Liaising between Sony and Universal (our JV partner). Preparing and presenting financial data at the monthly Now board meeting. Responsible for monthly bookings and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for Now That’s What I Call Music statutory reporting and audit queries.
  • Approving Now royalty and BACs payments
  • Monitoring Now cash levels and paying equity income shares when appropriate
  • Adhoc deal analysis for catalogue / company purchases
  • Integrating new purchases into existing systems.
  • Day to day management of the Commercial and Sales Finance team
Person Specifications:


  • Music industry experience
  • Qualified accountant, at least 5-7+ years PQE
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Proven people management skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Works well to tight deadlines
  • Keen attention to detail
