What You’ll Be Doing

[PIAS] UK is looking for an experienced Paralegal to join its UK Legal & Business Affairs team at its head office in Bermondsey, London. The role will support the rest of the Business Affairs team across a wide range of areas of the business including [PIAS]’s artist and label services division [Integral], [PIAS]’s own Play It Again Sam and imprint labels and its roster of partner labels. The successful candidate will work alongside two senior members of the Business Affairs team and one Business Affairs Admin Assistant.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to senior personnel in the Legal & Business Affairs team in respect of rights acquisitions, service deals and group matters.
  • Provide an in-house business affairs service to [PIAS]’s own record labels, external partner labels and [Integral] by negotiating and drafting producer, mixer, remixer, featured-artist and broader ancillary agreements with assistance from the BA Admin Assistant, evolving into more complex licensing work.
  • Address internal queries on contractual terms and rights.
  • Work closely with a variety of internal departments in order to answer queries and communicate deal terms.
  • Responsibility for maintaining the company’s rights management system alongside the BA Admin Assistant.
  • Keep up to date on relevant laws and trends impacting recording contracts.
  • All other duties as reasonably required.

Skills and Experience Required for the Role
  • Minimum two years of experience working in the business affairs department at a music company or the media / entertainment department of a law firm.
  • Law degree (LPC preferable).
  • Sound understanding of intellectual property law (in particular copyright and performers’ rights) and contract law.
  • Proven contract drafting skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills including the ability to work under time pressure, prioritise and deal with conflicting demands in order to meet deadlines.
  • An excellent eye for detail.
  • Highly proficient IT skills and use of the Office 365 suite.
