An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Manager to join Kobalt’s Business Affairs team in London.

This is a legal role and will involve hands-on negotiating and drafting of various documents including agreements with our writer and publishing company clients, as well as supporting and assisting the team with other legal matters. It will provide an excellent opportunity for you to develop both professionally and personally in a highly progressive music company.


WHAT DOES A SENIOR MANAGER, BUSINESS AFFAIRS AT KOBALT DO?
  • You will draft, negotiate and handle the signature and the implementation (along with other internal teams) of various client (both writer and B2B) agreements and side letters as well as various other agreements relating to the publishing division such as agreements with sub-publishers and collection societies.
  • You prepare and review contract summaries as well as assist the Business Affairs team generally by carrying out various other legal and administrative tasks.
  • You maintain good relationships with external lawyers as well as advise and support our finance, creative, copyright and client relations teams on a variety of matters including deal terms, IP matters, dispute resolution, deal-flow processes and best legal practices.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • You are a qualified lawyer (ideally 2-5 years PQE, although other levels of experience will be considered) with experience from a music/media/rights based private practice law firm and/or in-house role in the entertainment/media industry with growing relations with music industry lawyers.
  • You have a solid understanding of relevant intellectual property law and can demonstrate significant negotiation and drafting experience.
  • You have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to disseminate complicated legal and contractual principles to non-legal staff in a coherent and precise manner.
  • You display a high level of attention to detail as well as an analytical mindset, organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload in a pressurised role.
