CD Baby – Manager, Promotions (US)

Join the best team in the independent music world! CD Baby (part of AVL Digital, a Downtown Music Holdings company) is now searching for Manager, Promotions in the Creator Services department based in Los Angeles or New York.

This role helps promote music releases and add value to CD Baby’s most important artists, managers and labels. Successful candidates will possess an existing relationship with editorial staff at streaming services, excellent communication skills, exemplary attention to detail and thrive with varied tasks from frequent high-profile artist releases.

Responsibilities / Tasks:
  • Responsible for owning and growing relationships with CD Baby’s digital partner companies (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube, Pandora, etc.) on a daily basis as it relates to promoting and highlighting priority releases, including proactively pitching for releases for placements, securing required assets from account managers and meeting all necessary deadlines as they arise
  • Report and document promotion successes proactively on a weekly and ad hoc basis both to the CD Baby Creator Services team, digital partners and clients
  • Managing project pipeline on a daily basis with Creator Services Account Managers to effectively promote priorities, including communicating opportunities, assisting with questions and troubleshooting as appropriate, and meeting all partner deadlines
  • In partnership with Creator Services Account Managers, enrich client releases with the evangelizing of successful release planning, marketing tools (Show.co, HearNow, external products), seeking out opportunities and being fully aware of the clients’ plans
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records, including data entry as required, to promote CD Baby key releases to digital partners through their various methods with attention to detail including metadata and promotional pitches prior to delivery to digital partners
  • Possessing a firm understanding of iTunes Style Guidelines and striving to ensure all key account submissions adhere to its requirements
  • Work with Artist Services and Operations representatives to handle client and partner issues
  • Collaborating with manager, project teams and members of the IT team to improve existing processes and introduce new features as well as lead department projects and initiatives as needed
  • Consistently prove an outstanding ability to set and meet deadlines independently while exhibiting a high-level of initiative in both researching and implementing new marketing and promotional opportunities to add value, grow and retain CD Baby’s key clients
  • Ability to identify and anticipate both present and future music industry change to help grow CD Baby’s business
  • Assisting with strategic projects and priorities that serve to increase visibility for CD Baby artists (whether individual or catalog-wide), maintain or earn a competitive advantage in the industry, and/or attract new priority clients to the CD Baby platform
  • Supporting continuous improvement, LEAN, and other process improvement/efficiency efforts
  • Participating in project planning, meetings, training, and operational improvements as requested
  • Establishing and maintaining a clean and safe workstation and other work areas
  • Assisting and collaborating with other departments as well as completing other projects and tasks as assigned
  • Flexibility in work hours – must be able to work non-standard schedules to attend conferences, industry events, and to generally meet the needs of the Creator Services team as necessary.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.
Qualifications

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with digital partner companies (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube, Pandora, etc.) in a promotional, editorial and/or sales role
  • Have an existing network of editorial, marketing and/or promotional contacts at digital partner companies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, with some HTML/XML experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both in a B2B and B2C environment
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized and extremely motivated
  • Ability to self-manage and multi-task with to balancing and prioritizing workload in a fast-paced, high volume environment
  • Proactive and positive approach with ability to independently initiate tasks and follow through to completion
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for building relationships
  • Outstanding analytical skills
  • Diligence of managing promotions for a range of clients with excellent follow-through
  • Robust and ongoing understanding of the music industry, including music licensing, copyright law and key trends affecting CD Baby as well as its digital partners
  • Positive attitude with excellent time and stress management
Qualifications:
  • Based in Los Angeles or New York
  • Educational Requirements: As a minimum, a College Degree or Equivalent
  • Experience Required: Minimum 3 years of music industry experience that must include promotional/marketing experience in one or more of the following environments: record label, distributor, marketing/promotions company, artist management, digital retailer, PR
