The A Side: A Day in The Life
Reporting into our UK Label Head, with a dotted line to our Senior Sales Manager, in this role you are Caroline UK’s conduit between the Editorial & Marketing Teams at the leading UK streaming platforms, our Caroline UK Label team and our artist roster.
Day-to-day, you will be responsible for steering the prioritisation and pitching of our key releases (UK and International) to the UK DSP’s. You will utilise your extensive network of contacts to build closer relationships between our artists/independent labels and our streaming partners, working to deliver the best possible editorial placements, long-tail streaming performance, DSP-related content plans and unique and innovative marketing and promotional opportunities with the platforms.
NB: Caroline UK has an extensive and highly successful roster in hip hop/rap, R&B and Afrobeat – a key part of this role will be a focus on the strength and development of your relationships, and delivery of results, for this area of our roster. This role will involve attending shows and events in the evenings and on weekends and may involve international travel.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
- Responsible for ensuring all our key UK digital releases (as identified by the UK Label Head) are pitched via our UK Sales Team within the optimal timeframe – advising and guiding our artist and label teams on the ideal streaming release strategy to achieve the campaign goals
- You will work with the UK Marketing and Sales teams and our artist management teams / independent labels to devise and plan DSP-focused campaign assets, content and marketing strategies and to identify relevant, innovative, and unique promotional or brand partnerships opportunities with DSP’s, with a particular focus on our hip hop/rap, R&B, Afrobeat and pop roster
- You will engage the relevant DSP teams in discussions about these marketing and promotional opportunities, to ensure our artists and independent labels are always a priority focus for them and we are leading the field with ‘firsts’ in this area e.g. unique events, collaborations, on-platform ‘firsts’
- You will be the key point of liaison in the UK Team for coordinating any ‘new artist’ or ‘ones to watch’ type DSP campaign pitches for our developing artists on the UK urban roster e.g. Apple Up Next, Spotify Radar, YouTube Ones To Watch etc
- You will work closely in tandem with the UK Sales team to identify and pitch for any on-platform profile / booster / editorial support programmes relevant to the key releases on our roster
- You will closely monitor all of our key releases post-release and liaise with the UK Marketing and Sales teams on re-pitching releases showing positive signs of growth, working to devise long-tail strategies for those tracks to grow them through specialist editorial support through to the relevant Hits playlisting opportunities on the platforms
- Working closely with our in-house Data Analyst, you will look to identify streaming spikes and key data points for our key releases, translating these data points into pitch points
- Liaising with our Data Analyst, you will also monitor international releases to keep track of any significant growth that could present opportunities in the UK, or collaborations with our UK artists, liaising with the International team
- You will have excellent working knowledge of out-of-house third party data platforms such as Chartmetric, Spotify For Artists, Apple Music For Artists etc and use these platforms, alongside UMG’s best-in-class in-house data platforms, to pull together pitches and re-pitches for our UK Sales team
- You will be an integral part of the wider Caroline UK Label Team – Marketing, Promotions, Sales – working from the inception of a campaign to shape the positioning and release strategies, with a particular focus on our hip hop/rap, R&B and Afrobeat roster
- You will collaborate closely with the artist management teams and independent labels for our hip hop/rap, R&B and Afrobeat roster in particular, to build strong relationships, to be their authentic voice and representation at DSP’s, able to share our artists’ stories with credibility and integrity
- You will continue to foster your already-strong network of relevant contacts at UK (and international) DSP’s, and in the wider UK Black music community (media, influencers, sport)
- Working with the UK Label team, you will be an important voice helping to guide the creative strategy around our key artist release strategies and positioning
- Working with the UK Label team across our hip hop/rap, R&B and Afrobeat releases, you will work to devise creative release strategies for tracks, mixtapes and albums in these genre focus areas, with a view to maximising both consumption and cultural impact
- You will brief and deliver stylish, credible, culturally-appropriate and engaging assets for all aspects of your work within this role, from ones-to-watch pitches or bespoke event creative to DSP-targeted marketing assets, liaising with the UK Marketing Manager and Digital Marketing Manager per project as needed
- You will be an important voice within Caroline UK, communicating and connecting the team with key cultural moments in UK music
- You will have very strong, proven, current and well-established network of UK DSP and key media/influencer contacts within the UK Black music scene, and broad and wide-ranging taste and knowledge of contemporary UK music
- You will have a proven track record working within either a record label, artist & label services, digital streaming platform, digital marketing or artist management environment where your role will have involved a significant element of communicating directly with DSP’s
- You will be fluent in your use of relevant data platforms such as Spotify For Artists, Apple Music For Artists etc
- The person in this role needs to be able to confidently develop and maintain relationships and communicate with their contact network in a personal and engaging way, in an appropriate style and tone of voice for Caroline and the artists in our roster. You will be a brand ambassador for our artists/labels and Caroline UK at DSP’s. Therefore, strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical for this role
