We have a rare and exciting opportunity available to join the Radio & Music department here at BBC Studios as a Music Publishing Assistant. Within the role, you will be responsible for acquiring music publishing rights in commissioned music for the commercial benefit of BBC content and BBC Studios Ltd.

Main Responsibilities
  • As a Music Publishing Assistant, you will work closely with the Music Publishing Manager across all programme areas for in-house and independent productions.
  • You’ll need to establish and maintain a comprehensive information base of all current and upcoming productions, whilst developing strong working relationships with production teams and television/film composers and acquire music publishing rights in these areas whilst supporting the production with monetary investment.
  • You will liaise with relevant BBC and independent production personnel regarding the commissioning of music, and advise on the choice of composer or music where required.
  • You will provide and co-ordinate specific composer pitches for producer consideration whilst negotiating with composers with a view to acquiring music publishing rights and calculate investment towards production music budgets.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in music across all genres and a strong understanding of music production.

You’ll have the ability to demonstrate negotiation skills in a commercial environment preferably within the media or music industry. An understanding and knowledge of music copyright and the music publishing industry would also be of benefit.

You will have excellent communication and presentation skills and will possess the knowledge and strategic mind-set required to forge strong, cross-functional working relationships.

You will also demonstrate an aptitude for pitching ideas to clients, composers and production teams – either in a face to face situation or via conference call / video.
