Ace Records – Production Manager (UK)

About Ace

Ace Records is one of the leading reissue record companies and produces great sounding, well-packaged releases. We work with music repertoire experts, designers with a keen eye for the right period look and highly-skilled audio engineers creating CD, vinyl and digital releases each month.

Your role at Ace

Your primary role will be to manage the production of all physical products released on the Ace group of labels.

  • A strong awareness of deadlines, good organisational, administrative and analytical skills and a keen eye for detail are all essential.
  • An ability and desire to drive deadlines on a regular monthly release schedule
  • 3-5 years of previous Production experience in the music industry, preferably at a record label.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic image editing skills and a knowledge and understanding of the repertoire we release would also be advantageous.
What you’ll be doing:

Lead the weekly scheduling meeting attended by the A&R, digital, licensing, sales and marketing departments. Pay heed to all requirements raised in the meeting, such as licensing deadlines and promotional plans, and organise production parts accordingly. Issue regular deadlines, chasers and updates to all.

Work closely with the project compilers, designers, manufacturers and licensees to deliver an agreed number of newly-originated physical packages each month.

Processes will include track matching against previous releases, chasing in and entering ISRCs and licensing credits, researching and entering label copy and monthly PPL coding. To commission and edit sleeve notes, and gather all other relevant information and parts for the release, including sourcing and scanning photographs (and obtaining the necessary permissions for usage) and memorabilia.

Once the cover photo or image has been selected, choose the designer and give them the cover brief. Organising masters for releases – liaising with compilers, labels and studios to ensure sources are the correct versions and the best quality.

Once parts are assembled: proof-read all materials and get this checked by a second person. Then put all elements that will be on the product together: all text, logos, memorabilia, photos etc and send to the designer, ensuring they use the chosen cover design and making any necessary tweaks. Secure necessary licensing approval on artwork.

Order and manage the approval of test-pressings and – working with our mastering studio – ensure audio is approved and uploaded to the factory on time. It will be your ultimate responsibility that all parts for manufacture are assembled and release dates are met.

Organise replacement parts for back catalogue items where they have been lost or damaged. Re-originate packages where necessary.

Undertake photo/ artwork rights research when repertoire is licensed to third parties.
