Italian football league Serie A signs major music licensing deal

Italy’s top domestic football league, Serie A, has signed a blanket music licensing deal with SCF – the organisation that collects and distributes royalties for record companies and artists in the European country.

The new agreement allows Serie A clubs and events to use music from SCF’s catalogue of more than 20 million songs without fear of individual financial penalities.

“Through this agreement, in the stadiums of Serie A our fans will continue to [enjoy] an exciting experience – not only made by great sporting moments but also by musical entertainment that we hope will become increasingly rich and engaging, in full compliance with community and national legislation,” said Maurizio Beretta , President of Serie A.

President of SCF , Enzo Mazza, added: “We are extremely pleased to have signed an agreement with such an important [organisation] in national football.

“We hope that this is an example for the many active traders in this area and leads to a greater openness around the protection of [labels] and music artists.”

Top teams in Italy’s Serie A include Lazio, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Napoli.

With over 350 Members, SCF represents more than 95% of the local and international recording repertoire distributed in Italy.Music Business Worldwide
