India’s Tips Music inks global deal with Sony Music Publishing

Sony Music Publishing (SMP) has signed a global publishing agreement with India-based music compapny Tips Music.

Tips Music, part of entertainment firm Tips Industries Ltd., was founded in 1990 by Kumar Taurani and Ramesh Taurani.

It has released music for some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters of the 90’s and 2000’s. It is home to many popular Bollywood artists including Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, and Sonu Nigam.

The company’s catalog covers Bollywood films including Race, Taal, Pardes, Raja Hindustani, Dil Hai Tumhara, Genius, Entertainment, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Ramaiya Vastaviaya, Prince, Khalnayak, Kismat Konnection, and many more.

Under the new deal, SMP will administer and promote Tips Music’s catalog of over 30,000 tracks and 5,500 albums spanning across 24 languages, globally.

SMP says the partnership underscores the growing demand for music from India and the opportunities it offers for collaboration and growth. The deal is expected to boost the publishing and royalty earnings of Tips Music while allowing artists to reach a broader global audience.

The deal covers the administration, synchronization, and catalogue promotion of Tips Music’s repertoire, with SMP promoting the label’s songs in international markets.

Taurani added that the deal would help to increase Tips’ publishing and royalty collection while taking India’s music to international shores, entertaining audiences around the globe.

Sony Music Publishing is the latest multinational label to sign a worldwide publishing deal with Tips, following Warner Music’s deal with the label in October 2020. That deal saw Tips’ Hindi catalog distributed locally by Warner Music India and internationally by ADA, the global independent distribution division of Warner Music.

In December 2020, Tips signed a global licensing deal with Meta for the use of its music across the Facebook and Instagram platforms.
