Lopez (pictured) most recently served as GM/EVP for Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
He was promoted into the position in 2014, steeping up from his role as VP of UMLE’s brand partnerships and digital division.
Earlier in his UMG career he launched Latin-urban label Machete Music and ran UMLE’s regional Mexican labels, Fonovisa and Disa.
Lopez’s new company is described as a ‘full stack entertainment company’ for Latin music and artists.
“Talento Uno represents a new model for the Latin music industry.”
Talento Uno Music (TU) has been co-founded with Eddie Orjuela, a seasoned live music promoter and A&R exec who launched Nederlander Concerts’ national Latin department.
It will offer services to Latin artists including A&R, distribution, publishing, digital marketing, social media management and live events.
In 2015, Lopez played a key role in the launch of L Festival – Universal’s successful Latin-themed music event based in LA.
“Talento Uno represents a new model for the Latin music industry,” said Lopez in a statement.
“People are connected more now than ever, and Talento Uno is the ecosystem by which artists and business partners can reach fans more successfully.”
Lopez will take the role of CEO at Talento Uno Music, working alongside other ex-UMG execs including head of commercial affairs Eddie Laca and head of A&R Nelson Mendoza.
Universal Music Latin Entertainment – run by Chairman/CEO Jesús López – is on something of a roll right now, having released the record-breaking Despacito by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee.Music Business Worldwide
