Get ready for Netflix series about Spotify, a ‘fictionalized account’ of the streaming platform’s rise

The film business has long been fascinated with startups-turned unicorns.

In 2010, The Social Network told the story of Mark Zuckerberg‘s Facebook, and in 2015, Steve Jobs told the story of Apple and its founder.

More recently, we’ve seen series made about Uber (Super Pumped) and WeWork (WeCrashed).

Now, it’s Daniel Ek and Spotify‘s turn.

Back in 2019, we learned that Netflix was working on a miniseries about Spotify, inspired by the tell-all book Spotify Untold by authors Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.

Its official release on the video streaming platform is now set for October 13 and Netflix has published an official trailer for it too.

According to Netflix, “in this fictionalized account”, of the Spotify story, “a Swedish tech entrepreneur and his partners set out to revolutionize the music industry with a legal streaming platform”.

Sources tell MBW that each of the six forty-five-minute episodes in the miniseries will be told from different people’s perspectives, starting with Daniel Ek, and followed by other architects of the company’s rise.

It’ll also feature former Universal Music Sweden Managing Director, Per Sundin, played by Ulf Stenberg.

The lead cast members are Edvin Endre (Vikings) as Daniel Ek, Ulf Stenberg (Beartown) as Per Sundin, Gizem Erdogan (Love & Anarchy, Caliphate) as Petra Hansson, Joel Lützow (Gåsmamman) as Andreas Ehn, Christian Hillborg (The Last Kingdom) as Martin Lorentzon and Janice Kamya Kavander as Bobbie T.
