Former Republic President Charlie Walk partners with LiveXLive, planning to launch joint record label, music publishing operation

Video and audio streaming platform LiveXLive Media has partnered with Music Mastery, a music distribution and A&R service created by Charlie Walk, former President of Republic Records.

According to LiveXLive, the partnership “will result in “hundreds of rising artists” who are involved with Music Mastery being played on LiveXLive’s Slacker Radio platform.

Interestingly, a press release states that the new partnership between LiveXLive and Walk will “include joint efforts to create a record label, music publishing, and artist management [operations]”.

Live-streaming specialist LiveXLive, headquartered in Los Angeles, is listed on the NASDAQ with a current market cap value of around $340 million.

LiveXLive acquired Slacker Radio in 2017 for $50 million. Another of the firm’s subsidiaries, PodcastOne, claims to generate over 2 billion downloads annually.

Walk’s Music Mastery offers independent artists distribution to over 40 digital platforms, with an 80%/20% royalty split.

In addition, it offers paid-for service packages including “Mentorship”, as well as the use of recording studios “with hit producers, songwriters and engineers”.

A Music Mastery “Mentorship Pro” package includes virtual coaching from “your virtual mentor, Music Icon Charlie Walk” each Monday. It also promises “over 100+ hours (Group Coaching + New Music Fridays) of exclusive, live video calls including special guests ranging from music business lawyers, PR, marketing, A&R, Producers, Writers and more”.

A six-week Music Mastery “MasterClass” is also on offer, promising those who pay for it that they can “Learn the Secrets of the Music Business & More”.

The LiveXLive and Music Mastery partnership will see a “Pro-plan Membership” made available.

According to the press release, “Pro Plan” members will receive group coaching, masterclasses, a LiveXLive subscription, and “calls with special guests”. Those who buy in to “Pro Plan” will also feature on the Music Mastery Slacker Radio channel, due to launch in Q1 2021.

LiveXLive says the new partnership will allow artists to tap into “LiveXLive and Music Mastery’s flywheel of business verticals”, which includes audio, video, live-streaming, podcasts, ‘vodcasts’, merchandise, licensing, pay-per-views and live events.

Charlie Walk, CEO and Founder of Music Mastery, said: “LiveXLive has created an ecosystem of verticals that will now have the opportunity to embrace the independent artist community, unlike ever before.

“By partnering with LiveXLive and its outstanding teams in publishing, digital audio, marketing, livestreaming and podcast/vodcast, we will afford rising artists an opportunity to build audiences, fans and most importantly, break artists.

“I look forward to building our businesses in a meaningful way with LiveXLive’s world-class team.”
