Floris van Dam joins Merlin as VP of Insights

Floris van Dam has been appointed VP of Insights at Merlin, the global digital rights agency for the world’s independent label sector.

Van Dam was previously the International Head of Research & Analysis for Warner Music Group.

The addition of van Dam follows the promotion of Jim Mahoney to SVP, Member & Partner Success, in January.

In his new role, van Dam will interface with Merlin’s digital partners and members to help members benefit from marketplace and partner insights and take advantage of opportunities.

Van Dam comes to Merlin with over 20 years of experience in the music industry, having spent his career working directly with artists and labels across the globe.

Before his time at Warner Music Group, van Dam headed up the Data & Insights team at Sony Music Entertainment. He also has roots in finance, having worked in the field at Sony as well as at EMI Music and Roadrunner Records.

At Merlin, van Dam will work alongside the Data and Analytics Team, which will continue to be headed by Marta De La Hoz. Both leaders will report to Charlie Lexton, Merlin’s COO since 2020.

In his role as VP of Insights, van Dam will build and manage relationships with strategic data partners to accelerate the growth of Merlin’s data capabilities.

Merlin says its membership represents 15% of the global market share, and includes independents such as Armada Music, Beggars Group, Better Noise, Dim Mak, Entertainment One, Mad Decent, Ninja Tune, [PIAS], Stones Throw, Warp and more.

Merlin also has deals with over 30 digital services, including Apple, Facebook/Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, the latter signing with Merlin last year.

“We are thrilled to have Floris join the Merlin team.”
