Filippo Sugar named Chairman of Italian collection society SIAE

Italian musical works collection society SIAE, chaired by Maestro Franco Micalizzi, has appointed Filippo Sugar as Chairman of the Management Board of the Company.

Sugar, 43, is the youngest president in the history of SIAE.

The appointment, as required by Italian law, will be formalised by a decree of the President of the Republic.

“The next two years will be crucial to be a leader Siae increasingly also in other European collecting societies,” said Filippo Sugar.

“If the US is a leader in technology and asia in manufacturing that technology, we Europeans are leaders in content creation.”

“We have to try to make a quantum leap in the relationship between SIAE and its members and between SIAE and all who I use the repertoire, focusing on quality of service and the digitization of data, for a Siae behind the times.

“In Italy and in Europe, SIAE will engage even more to protect the culture and its authors: if the United States is a leader in technology, Asia in the manufacture of American technology, we Europeans are leaders in content creation. This is not only an opportunity to SIAE, but for the whole economy of our country and Europe. ”

Based out of its Rome headquarters SIAE, which represents songwriters and publishers across Italy, was founded in 1882.

Sugar steps up from his role as VP of the Management Board at SIAE. He is also the President of Italian record label Sugar Music, which was founded in 1932.Music Business Worldwide
