UK-based independent music company Dramatico Entertainment Ltd looks set to be officially dissolved before the end of the year, MBW has learned.
UPDATE: Dramatico Entertainment Ltd has today (September 18) filed its annual accounts for the year ending September 30, 2016, a period in which Mike Batt remained Director. They are undersigned by the company’s current Director, Julianne Batt – after Mike Batt resigned in August this year – and were originally due four months ago. Their filing shows ’cause to the contrary’ RE: dissolution, which should therefore reverse the Registrar Of Companies’ notice, meaning that Dramatico will not be struck off at this juncture. The company was founded by songwriter/producer Mike Batt in 2000.
By 2003 it had discovered and signed singer/songwriter Katie Melua, who has since sold more than 11m albums worldwide.
Melua albums such as her debut, Call Off The Search (2003), plus Piece By Piece (2005) and The House (2010) are now listed as being owned by BMG on digital services.
Other successes at Dramatico over the years have included Dutch pop/jazz artist Caro Emerald.
Emerald’s debut album, Songs From the Cutting Room Floor, was licensed to Dramatico in the UK on its release in 2010 and went on to attain platinum sales status in the country.
According to retail listings, Emerald’s material is now licensed through Brighton-based Mvka Music Ltd, in which former Dramatico exec Andrew Bowles is a shareholder.
Dramatico Entertainment Ltd is set to be dissolved by the UK Companies Registrar by early November (see below), ‘unless cause is shown to the contrary’.
According to documents filed at the UK’s Companies House, Mike Batt relinquished his position as Director of the company on August 10.
Its 2016 accounts were due to be publicly filed by end of June this year, but remain outstanding.
Dramatico, which set up offices in the UK and Germany, also worked with artists including Gurrumul, Paul Kelly, Sarah Blasko and Alistair Griffin.
