Downtown hires Peter Rosenthal as General Counsel

Downtown has appointed Peter Rosenthal as General Counsel following over thirteen years as a partner in the New York office of law firm Ritholz Levy Fields LLP.

In his new role, Rosenthal will oversee all aspects of the worldwide legal and business affairs for Downtown Music Publishing, Songtrust, and Downtown Music Studios.

That includes publishing, administration, license agreements and other transactional matters, acquisitions, global policy, enforcement, and corporate matters.

Based in New York, Rosenthal reports to Downtown’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Bergman.

He brings more than twenty years of experience counseling clients in the entertainment, new media, technology, and fashion and luxury goods industries, and structuring, negotiating, and documenting a wide array of corporate, commercial, and intellectual property agreements and transactions.

Before joining Ritholz Levy Fields LLP, Rosenthal’s background included roles at Playboy.com, Inc., Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, and the Entrepreneurial Services Group of Bingham, Dana & Gould.

“Peter’s breadth of experience, coupled with his analytical nature and his easy way of managing people throughout the organization, has and will continue to have a profound impact on the success of our businesses.”

Bergman said: “Peter and I have been working together for more than a decade.

“When I joined Downtown, he became the outside advisor with whom we entrusted much of the complicated legal work involved in building our dynamic, global business.

“When we decided it was time to bring on a dedicated GC onto the management team, it was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever had to make.

“Peter’s breadth of experience, coupled with his analytical nature and his easy way of managing people throughout the organization, has and will continue to have a profound impact on the success of our businesses.”Music Business Worldwide
