Disney+ will stream two Taylor Swift projects in December focused on The Eras Tour, a year after the concert series wrapped up as the highest-grossing concert tour in history with $2.08 billion in ticket sales.

The streaming platform secured rights to a six-part docuseries and a complete concert film, both premiering December 12.

The announcement on Monday (October 13) follows Swift’s release of The Life of a Showgirl, which sold more than 4 million equivalent album units in the US and 5.5 million globally during its first week.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era will provide behind-the-scenes look into the tour’s development and operations through six episodes. Disney+ will release two episodes weekly beginning December 12.  The series includes appearances from Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch, alongside crew members and Swift’s family, “offering never-before-seen insight into what it took to create a phenomenon.”

Disney+ said: “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era is an illuminating docuseries on Disney+ that gives an intimate look at Taylor’s life as her tour made headlines and thrilled fans around the world.”

The second content, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, will present the full Vancouver concert that wrapped up the tour. Disney+ said this marks the first filmed version of Swift performing material from The Tortured Poets Department, which was added to the setlist after the alum was released in 2024.

The docuseries was directed by Don Argott, with Sheena M. Joyce as co-director, and produced by Object & Animal. Glenn Weiss directed the concert film through Taylor Swift Productions and Silent House Productions.

As MBW reported in December 2024, the tour generated USD $2,077,618,725 in ticket sales across 149 shows over nearly two years. Taylor Swift Touring, the singer’s production company confirmed the number to the New York Times.

That breaks down to approximately $13.9 million per show. With 10.2 million attendees, the average ticket price reached $209, well above the 2013 industry average of $131 cited by Pollstar.

The Disney+ deal marks a different distribution approach than Swift used for her 2023 Eras Tour concert film. That project was pitched to multiple studios before AMC secured theatrical distribution rights. The theatrical version earned $267.1 million globally, including $180.8 million in the US, setting records for the highest-grossing theatrical release of all time among both concert films and documentaries. Deadline reported the film generated $172 million in net profit.

Swift’s momentum in filmed content continues with the limited release party film for her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, selling $15 million in advance ticket sales within 24 hours of going on sale. AMC reported the final figures last week, saying the sing-along movie titled The Official Release Party of a Showgirl generated more than $34 million in domestic box office and more than $50 million globally.

AMC’s CEO Adam Aron said in a statement: “On behalf of AMC Theatres and the entire theatrical exhibition industry, I extend our sincerest appreciation to the iconic Taylor Swift for bringing her brilliance and magic to movie theatres this weekend.”

“Her vision to add a cinematic element to her incredible album debut was nothing less than a triumph.”
