Deezer expands playlist brands into ‘LIVE’ concerts; recorded gigs to be available exclusively on platform

France-born music streaming service Deezer is expanding its flagship playlist brands like Rocket, Popstar and Certified into a concert series, or ‘playlist parties’ in different cities around the world.

The streaming company says that its music editors have hand-picked artists to perform at small invite-only shows called ‘LIVE’.

Each event will focus on a different genre and each gig will be recorded as a ‘Deezer Session’, which will be available exclusively on Deezer.

The first event is Rocket LIVE, set to take place tomorrow (February 19) in Paris, with Circa Waves and Twin Atlantic booked to “perform new music to fans and competition winners”.

The Rocket brand features superstar rock bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Green Day, through to emerging talent like Fontaines D.C. and Yonaka.

The live series is being launched by Nigel Harding (pictured), Deezer’s VP of Artist Marketing, according to the company.

“For the first time, we’re bringing these hand-picked selections to life in a really cool party atmosphere.

Said Harding: “Our editors make playlists to perfectly suit fans’ tastes and moods.

“For the first time, we’re bringing these hand-picked selections to life in a really cool party atmosphere.

“Fans can get closer to the artists they love, from the playlists they love, all in a live setting.”

Deezer is the latest streaming company to expand its playlists brands into the live sector.

Apple hosted a concert series called Up Next Live last summer featuring past and present Apple Music ‘Up Next’ artists, which were hosted after hours in Apple stores in Milan, San Francisco, Brooklyn, Paris, London, Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Spotify launched its first ever large-scale live music event in London in November 2017 – Who We Be, linked to the playlist of the same name.Music Business Worldwide
