Cooking Vinyl Australia, the Australasian division of The Cooking Vinyl Group, has launched a music publishing division.

The new company – Cooking Vinyl Publishing Australia – will be overseen by former Peermusic Managing Director Matthew Donlevy and will operate from Sydney.

The company’s label activities will continue to be based in Melbourne.

Effective immediately, Donlevy (pictured inset) reports directly to Cooking Vinyl Group Founder & CEO Martin Goldschmidt with a remit to sign and nurture Antipodean songwriters for both domestic & international development.

Matthew Donlevy has been an AMCOS (Australasian Music Copyright Owners Society) board member for approaching 20 years, holding the position of Deputy Chairman for the last 5 years.

Established in early 2013 by former Shock Records staffers Leigh Gruppetta and Stu Harvey, Cooking Vinyl Australia also signs both local and international artists in addition to representing the wider Cooking Vinyl Records roster.

Fully independent, it also provides project management services to a number of local and international labels including BMG Rights, Dine Alone, Razor & Tie, Resist, Run For Cover, SideOneDummy and Thirty Tigers among others.

Matthew Donlevy said “This is an amazing opportunity and with the support and infrastructure of an international music company behind me I can’t wait to start signing some amazing songwriters.

“The recent launch of a dedicated Cooking Vinyl office in the USA demonstrates that this is a company with global ambitions. Martin & I have known each other for many years both professionally & socially but this is the first time we have worked together in such a close way.

“Cooking Vinyl has an exceptional roster of acts both locally & internationally and with Cooking Vinyl Australia enjoying major hits recently including a number one album with Parkway Drive and a top five album from City and Colour it’s time to augment that success with a strong music publishing division.”

Martin Goldschmidt said, “Not only is Matt a fine skier (we first met at Skidem), and a great guy, but one of the most experienced music publishers in Australia with a strong track record of success.

“He is the perfect person to develop and build our Australian music publishing company, which will compliment the fantastic work that already been achieved by the label.”

Leigh Gruppetta, Co-Managing Director of Cooking Vinyl Australia said, “As a label we are very proud of the success we have achieved in the three years since we launched. Our records and label services activities are now well established and it is time to focus on growing our presence in the market.

“Music publishing has been a key part of the long term strategy for the business and Matthew, who is a highly respected figure in that world, will bring energy, experience and expertise to his new role and will be a valuable addition to our team.”Music Business Worldwide
