The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM)

The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is an industry organization that represents the interests of independent labels in the United States.

Its members include the likes of ATO Records, Yep Roc Records, Epitaph Records, Beggars Group, Tommy Boy, and Secretly Label Group.

In total A2IM has over 600 independent music label members.

A2IM’s headquarters are located in New York, while the org has additional ‘chapters’  in Nashville, Chicago, Northern California, Southern California, and the Pacific Northwest.

Richard James Burgess, founder of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, was named A2IM CEO in 2016. Burgess then renewed his contract in 2019.

A2IM runs live events throughout each year, including Indie Week in New York, plus the yearly Libera Awards, which celebrate the best in the US independent music industry.

The trade org was founded in 2005, as a successor to the likes of the National Association of Independent Record Distributors (NAIRD) and the Association for Independent Music (AFIM).Music Business Worldwide
