Caroline Elleray, Frank Tope and Mark Gale promoted at UMP in the UK

Universal Music Publishing has announced a trio of senior executive promotions within its UK A&R team.

Caroline Elleray becomes VP of A&R, Frank Tope becomes Senior Director of A&R and Mark Gale becomes Director of UK A&R / Director of International A&R.

Having spent almost their entire music industry careers in A&R with Universal Music Publishing in the UK, the trio have collectively worked with writers including Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine, Haim, The xx, Chvrches, Lapsley, Jannee Bennett and James Blake.

Paul Connolly, President of Universal Music Publishing Europe & UK, said: “It would be easy for me to say that Caroline, Mark and Frank’s stellar signings speak for themselves – and plainly they do.

“But, above that, I think Caroline, Frank and Mark exemplify truly excellent A&R.

“Paul Connolly has a strict ‘no bullshit’ rule. We get to sign and work with the artists and writers we love.”

“For many years they’ve been instrumental in attracting the best artists and songwriters from the UK and beyond and I’m delighted to recognise and reward their own talents, commitment and professionalism with these key creative promotions.”

Elleray commented: “Frank, Mark and I have been working for Paul [Connolly] at Universal Publishing for many years now and yet we still get the same rush of excitement each day as when we very first started.

“Paul consistently nurtures a culture centred on music and songs and has a strict ‘no bullshit’ rule. We get to sign and work with the artists and writers that we love and represent the music that we’re passionate about.

“We’re equally excited about bringing through our new talented young A&R executives and we’re looking forward to sharing many years of continued success with our team.”
