Bryan Turner, founder of Priority Records, joins advisory board of blockchain music startup, Beatdapp

Veteran music executive Bryan Turner has joined the Advisory Board of Vancouver-based blockchain music startup, Beatdapp.

Turner founded Priority Records in 1985 and during his 16 years as Chairman, Priority sold in excess of $1.7 billion of recorded music.

Priority signed N.W.A. and their first release on the label was Straight Outta Compton.

Turner later partnered with Interscope Records to distribute Dr. Dre’s The Chronic.

Using its proprietary blockchain, Beatdapp promises to help labels find missing royalties. It also promises to ‘help DSPs fight streaming fraud and save money.’

According to the company’s website, it provides “authenticated usage reports to comply with new and ever-changing copyright regulations”.

It adds: “We leverage our global streaming dataset, machine learning and artificial intelligence to detect bad actors, streaming farms and fraud”.

Beatdapp closed a CAD $3.2 million (approximately $2.7m) financing round led by Panache Ventures in October 2019.

In addition to his work with Beatdapp, Turner has partnered with Cirque du Soleil to develop a touring Hip Hop show.

He also co-founded a live music production company in 2015. He partnered with rapper Mack 10 to produce and promote live concerts with artists such as Lil Wayne, Cardi B, Lil Uzi Vert, YG, Whiz Khalifa, and Snoop Dogg.
