Cloud 9 Music has acquired 50% in the UK based boutique music publishing company, Phrased Differently.
Phrased Differently’s catalogue includes over 2,000 songs performed by artists such as Calvin Harris, Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea, Tinie Tempah, Britney Spears, Olly Murs, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Little Mix, Avicii and Tiësto.
Founded in 2006 by Founder and Managing Director, Hiten Bharadia, the company is home to writers including Nathan Duvall (Disciples/”How Deep Is Your Love” – Calvin Harris) Meagan Cottone (Iggy Azalea / Britney / Olly Murs / Demi Lovato) and Andreas Moe (Avicii / Tiesto / Hardwell).
Bharadia originally sold 50% in Phrased Differently to the Dutch music publisher Talpa Music in 2011. Phrased Differently was subsequently included in Talpa’s sale to BMG Rights.
Cloud 9 Music, founded in 2004 by MD Raymond van Vliet, has now replaced BMG Rights as 50% shareholder.
Cloud 9 itself started a joint venture with Chrysalis UK for the Benelux, which ended in 2012 due to the sale of Chrysalis to BMG.

In 2014 Cloud 9 Music started a new venture with Downtown USA for the Benelux, called Downtown Music Benelux.

“This deal, which was originally initiated by Talpa’s Former VP and currently Cloud 9’s Senior Marketing & Creative consultant Pieter Van Bodegraven, also gives Cloud 9 Music, through this cooperation access to the seven studios Phrased Differently operates in London as well as Phrased Differently’s international A&R network.”

Before founding Phrased Differently, Bharadia was a Universal Records A&R Executive and songwriter.
In 2016, Phrased Differently received 3 Brit Nominations for both Calvin Harris & Disciples “How Deep Is Your Love” and Olly Murs & Demi Lovato “Up” and also an MTV VMA nomination.
