BMG buys Fred Alhert Music catalogue business

BMG Chrysalis North America has snapped up the Fred Alhert Music Catalogue.

The catalogue has been administered by BMG Rights Management since 2011, and includes standards such as “Stormy Weather,” “I’ve Got the World On A String,” “Bye Bye Blackbird,” and “Land of 1000 Dances.”

Independent publisher Fred Ahlert Jr. formed the Fred Ahlert Music Group in 1953 upon the death of his father Fred E. Ahlert. Ahlert Senior wrote such classics as “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” and was a founding member of ASCAP.

In the succeeding years Alhert represented the works of such giants as Ted Koehler, Mort Dixon and Joe Burke as well as contemporary writers like Juice Newton, Bones Howe, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, and Chris Kenner.

“We’re thrilled to add Fred Alhert’s emblematic catalogue of  20th Century American classics to the BMG roster and equally delighted to introduce a new generation of music lovers to its timeless favorites”- Laurent Hubert, President Creative & Marketing BMG Chrysalis North America.Music Business Worldwide
