BMG acquires rights to hit ‘Feelings’ and other Loulou Gasté songs

BMG has acquired the publishing catalogues of the songwriter Loulou Gasté controlled by his widow, French singer and actress Line Renaud, including rights in worldwide hit ‘Feelings’ made famous by Morris Albert.

In a 50 year career beginning in the 1930’s, Loulou Gasté composed approximately 1,200 songs, including Yves Montand’s ‘Battling Joe’ (1946) and ‘Luna Park’ (1945), Line Renaud’s ‘Ma cabane au Canada’ (1949) and ‘Le bal aux baléares’ (1950).

‘Feelings’ became a US Number One following its release in 1974, and has since been covered by artists ranging from Shirley Bassey to Johnny Mathis, The O’Jays, The Offspring, Nina Simone, and many others.

Line Renaud has been the custodian of her husband’s legacy since Gasté’s death in 1995.

Stéphane Berlow, Managing Director of BMG France: “Loulou Gasté is one of the legendary figureheads of the “Chanson Française”, an exceptional songwriter and an oustanding talent for composing fabulous melodies that will continue making an impact on generations going forward.

“We couldn’t be prouder to represent his body of work spanning several decades. Line Renaud and the music community can be assured that BMG takes its responsibility to preserve and develop the Loulou Gasté catalog extremely seriously.”

“All my trust goes to BMG France and BMG Global so that the work of my husband will never be forgotten”, says Line Renaud.Music Business Worldwide
