Ben Katovsky joins Matt Spetzler’s Pipeline as CEO

Ben Katovsky has joined Pipeline as Chief Executive Officer.

Pipeline is the USD $200 million-backed financing platform for the music and creative industries that launched in January through Matt Spetzler‘s investment firm Jamen Capital.

Katovsky will team with Co-Founder and Chairman Matt Spetzler, operating across Pipeline‘s offices in London, New York, and Los Angeles.

Pipeline says it aims to give music companies, rights holders, and creators access to the capital, investment expertise, and technology that have typically been available to the industry’s largest players.

Katovsky has spent more than two decades in music rights.

“Pipeline is building a different model for how companies and creators can access capital, giving songwriters, artists, labels, and publishers greater flexibility and control over how they grow.”

Most recently, he was CEO of Recognition Music Group, which owned and managed more than 45,000 songs and recordings across over 145 catalogs.

Katovsky joined Hipgnosis Song Management as President and COO in 2022 and became its CEO in 2024. Recognition was formed in March 2025, when Blackstone consolidated its Hipgnosis assets under a new brand.

Under his leadership, the business completed asset-backed financings before agreeing to the sale of its entire catalog to Sony Music Publishing, in a transaction that completed in July 2026.

Before Hipgnosis, Katovsky spent seven years at BMG, ultimately as Chief Operating Officer.

Katovsky and Spetzler have worked together before: in May 2025, Recognition appointed Spetzler Chairman of its newly formed Senior Advisory Group.

“We started Pipeline because there is enormous value in music IP, and too many of the companies that own it haven’t had the backing to realize their ambitions,” said Spetzler. “Ben is one of very few people who has built, financed, and run a world-class rights business at scale, delivering very strong outcomes for investors while caring for the music and the people behind it.

“He is the perfect person to lead Pipeline into its next phase.”

Since launching, Pipeline has struck a partnership with independent licensing body Merlin to offer its members advances against digital royalties.

In March, it acquired music valuation firm Clarty Partners, adding valuation technology, royalty ingestion systems, and analytical infrastructure.

Clarty‘s founders, former BMG executives Stéphane Hubert and Pierre Suignard, joined Pipeline to lead its investment underwriting division.

Before founding Jamen Capital, Spetzler was a Partner and Co-Head of Europe at private equity firm Francisco Partners.

There, he played a key role in the firm’s approximately $750 million majority acquisition of Kobalt Music Group in 2022.

According to Pipeline, Spetzler has been involved in transactions representing more than $10 billion in value across more than 10 investments in music and audio. In 2026 alone, he has helped oversee more than $7 billion in exits and realizations at companies where he has held board or advisory roles, including Kobalt, Recognition, and Muse Group.

“I’ve spent my career at the intersection of music, technology, and investment, working with some of the most innovative companies in our business,” said Katovsky. “Pipeline is building a different model for how companies and creators can access capital, giving songwriters, artists, labels, and publishers greater flexibility and control over how they grow.

“Matt and the team have built something impressive and I’m excited to be joining them to empower the music and wider creative industries.”Music Business Worldwide
