BeatStars launches ‘Creator Rights Agency’ platform to assist music creators in deal negotiations

BeatStars, an online beat and sample marketplace that has paid out over $250 million to its creators to date, has launched a new platform called the Creator Rights Agency (CRA).

The CRA, according to BeatStars, is intended to assist music creators in deal negotiations for intellectual property rights outside of their publishing rights.

Access to the CRA is currently available to subscribers of the BeatStars Professional tier who are also members of BeatStars Publishing. The company launched its Sony Music Publishing-backed publishing service in 2021.

According to a press release, the Creator Rights Agency is “an end-to-end service that allows creators to get data-driven recommendations from experts for licensing, protecting, and getting paid for their intellectual property”.

Beatstars says that the CRA “consolidates management, legal, and accounting services” and charges a 10% commission only on the deals that are successfully negotiated by the CRA.

Through an online platform, creators can directly submit requests to the CRA’s team of specialists, who, according to BeatStars use data to advise on negotiations, finalize agreements, and secure upfront fees and royalties from artists, labels, and even SoundExchange.

BeatStars says that its CRA team has already negotiated with more than 68 labels (including indies and majors) as well as with “86 of the top attorneys in the music industry to unblock over $1,000,000 in fees and advances for its roster of clients”.

The company claims that “this in turn has unblocked an estimated $26.3 million dollars for labels and artists”.

BeatStars highlights some of the CRA’s “most notable clearances” as Romantic Homicide and Here with Me by D4VD, Equal Dirt by Rylo Rodriguez, Frozen by Lil Baby, SPIT IN MY FACE by ThxSoMuch, Come See Me by Rod Wave, and Soak City by 310babii.

The CRA also provides editable contract templates to creators, covering various scenarios, including non-disclosure agreements, session musician agreements, SoundExchange management, and licensing deals.

The portal also assists creators with administrative tasks by allowing them to generate invoices, fill out tax forms, and complete major-label vendor packets, ensuring they get paid promptly for advances, fees, royalties, and more.

Since its inception in 2008, BeatStars says “millions” of recording artists now use the BeatStars platform to license and purchase beats, sounds, and various services from a global community of creators.

The Creator Rights Agency marks BeatStars’ latest offering for creators after it partnered with vocal effects app Voloco to integrate their features for music artists and creators in December, and with AI music startup Lemonaide in August to offer an AI music creation tool called Seeds.
