Bad Bunny is king of Spotify, setting new all-time record for streams in a single day

Bad Bunny celebrated the end of 2021 by becoming the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify for the second year in a row. Now, the Puerto Rican star is breaking yet more streaming records on Daniel Ek‘s platform.

Spotify has confirmed that on Friday, May 6, Bad Bunny became the all-time most-streamed artist globally on its platform in a single day.

He racked up 183 million Spotify streams within 24 hours.

The record was previously held by Drake, who previously attracted 176.8 million streams in a single day, says Spotify.

Spotify has also confirmed that Bad Bunny’s fifth studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti, released on May 6, has became the service’s most-streamed album in 2022 so far.

On the day of its release, all of 23 tracks from Un Verano Sin Ti ranked in Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart in the top 30.

Bad Bunny also had nine songs from the album in the Top 10 of that chart.

Bad Bunny’s record breaking success is yet another positive sign for the Latin music market, which is set for a record-breaking year in 2022.

In April, MBW predicted that the recorded music market for Latin artists in the United States will generate more than a billion dollars in revenue across the 12 months of 2022.

Our confidence was bolstered by data released on April 12 in a report from the RIAA, which showed that Latin music generated $886.1 million on a retail basis in the US in 2021.

That $886.1 million figure was up by more than a third (+35.4%) on Latin music’s revenues in the US in the prior year.

While Bad Bunny continues to grab headlines, fellow Reggaeton star Karol G was recently named the most-viewed artist globally on Vevo in 2021.

The Colombian star generated 3.11 billion views on the platform in 2021, beating The Weeknd who came in a close second with 3.10 billion global views.Music Business Worldwide
