Azi Eftekhari and Hannah Neaves named Co-Presidents of Universal Music Catalogue UK

Universal Music UK has announced the appointment of Azi Eftekhari and Hannah Neaves as co-Presidents of its catalogue division.

According to Universal, the two widely respected executives will “lead cross-generational, global discovery of UK repertoire from the biggest and most diverse music catalogue in the world”.

Reporting to Chairman and CEO David Joseph, Eftekhari and Neaves join Universal Music UK this week.

Universal Music Catalogue’s (UMC) bestsellers of 2021 include the likes of The Beatles, Queen, Elton John, The Rolling Stones and Amy Winehouse.

Hannah Neaves has been instrumental in developing the careers of some of the world’s biggest artists, including Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and James Blake.

Starting out as an intern at EMI, she rose to Head of Artist Development at Polydor then Marketing Director at Atlantic Records – where she was part of the team behind Ed Sheeran’s Divide album campaign – before moving into artist management as Head of Artist Development & Marketing at TaP Music, where she oversaw the album marketing and creative for Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia.

Meanwhile, Azi Eftekhari oversaw the launch of YouTube Music across Europe and the roll out of the Google Play subscription service in over 40 countries as Head of Label Relations (EMEA) at YouTube/Google.

Recognized by Billboard as an “International Power Player”, she brokered the deal which saw Google Play (and later YouTube) become the official digital partners of the BRIT Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2020.

She was previously Director of Digital and Publicity at Mercury Records and the first Head of Digital at Universal Music Catalogue in 2007.

She has served on the board of both the Official Charts Company and the Entertainment Retailers Association.

Most recently, the executives combined forces to launch creative agency Remedy Inc.

Spanning music, fashion, tech and theatre, their work encompasses creative direction, executive production, partnerships and events, with clients including The BRITs, Google, Mercury Studios, The Fashion Awards and Playful Productions.

This week’s appointments follow the promotions of UMC co-MDs Richard Hinkley and David Rowe, with Hinkley becoming Managing Director of UMC reporting to Azi Eftekhari and Hannah Neaves, while David Rowe takes a new central role to build on Universal Music UK’s relationships and track record with catalogue repertoire as SVP, Universal Music UK.
