Australia’s Music Publishers Association appoints Jeremy Fabinyi as GM

Australia’s music publishing association, AMPAL, has appointed Jeremy Fabinyi as its new General Manager.

He will replace Peter Hebbes who has stood down in order to focus on his own music publishing business.

Fabinyi has more than 30 years’ experience in the music business. He has spent the last ten years in Europe, where he held senior positions at the international trade associations CISAC and BIEM in Paris and served as executive director of MCPS and interim CEO at UK musical works collecting society PRS for Music.

Prior to leaving Australia he was Group Managing Director of Festival Mushroom Records and Festival Publishing and Festival Studios. He held the post of CEO of AMPAL & AMCOS during the 1990s and was the principal of artist management company Mental Management responsible for the careers of, among others, Mental as Anything, The Wiggles, The Cockroaches and Machinations.

AMPAL’s Chairman, Catherine Gerrard, said: “The appointment of Jeremy Fabinyi to the position of AMPAL General Manager is a major step forward for AMPAL. We have a strong plan to focus AMPAL as the leading body for publishers and publishing in our territory. There is a lot we want to achieve and we cannot think of anyone better than Jeremy to set our new strategic direction into motion. Jeremy is well known in Australia and around the world and he will be a great asset to our organisation.”

Fabinyi, who will take up the role on April 10, commented: “I’m delighted to be returning to Australia – I’ve been away too long! I look forward to using my experience to support Australian and New Zealand publishers and the songwriters they represent.”Music Business Worldwide
