Ashley Gorley’s Tape Room Music to sell over 350 songs to Red Light Ventures and Firebird Music under new partnership

Ashley Gorley

Nashville-based Tape Room Music will sell “over 350 exploited songs” from its catalog to Red Light Ventures and Firebird Music as part of a new strategic partnership.

The songs include Sam Hunt’s ‘Body Like A Backroad’, Luke Bryan’s ‘Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset’, ‘Do I Make Ya Wanna’ by Billy Currington, Lee Brice’s ‘One Of Them Girls’, ‘Thinking ‘Bout You’ by Dustin Lynch and MacKenzie Porter, and more.

The collaboration seeks to combine Tape Room’s songwriting with Red Light and Firebird’s artist development business.

Tape Room Music, a publishing and artist development company, was established by songwriter Ashley Gorley.

The company has racked up nearly 40 No. 1 hits since its launch. Last year, Tape Room topped radio charts for eight weeks with two year-end No. 1 songs.

Ben Johnson’s ‘Take My Name’ led the year-end Billboard Country Airplay chart, while Hunter Phelps and Will Weatherly’s ‘Thinking ‘Bout You’ topped the Mediabase Year-End Country Airplay chart.

The publishing house’s achievements include three GRAMMY nominations, three CMA Song of the Year nominations, and several ASCAP and BMI awards.

“We are excited to partner with Ashley and the world-class team at Tape Room.”

Coran Capshaw, Red Light

Commenting on the new partnership, Tape Room President Blain Rhodes said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with two of the most successful, forward-thinking companies in our industry.”

Coran Capshaw, Founder at Red Light, added: “We are excited to partner with Ashley and the world-class team at Tape Room.”

Tape Room was represented by Loeb & Loeb LLC, with Loeb attorneys Derek Crownover, John Rolfe, Megan Pekar, and Willie Jones in the transaction, while Red Light and Firebird were represented by Elliot Groffman of Carroll Guido Groffman Cohen Bar & Karalian, LLP.

The latest deal follows Firebird’s acquisition of a stake in Tape Room.

Back in June, Firebird confirmed that it has made investments in a number of music and music-adjacent companies including Ntertain, a Latin-focused content and media company co-founded by entrepreneur Lex Borrero, producer Tainy, and music business legend Tommy Mottola.

In September last year, MBW exclusively revealed that Firebird had acquired a minority stake in Coran Capshaw’s Red Light Management.

Two months later, we discovered that Firebird had bought a substantial stake in UK-headquartered Transgressive Records.

Firebird, founded by former Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard and ex-KKR partner Nat Zilkha, has raised over $400 million from investors including Goldman Sachs, KKR and Pritzker Organization, the Wall Street Journal reported in June.

At the time, the Journal said Firebird formed a multimillion-dollar music-focused management company with the D’Amelio family, an American social media family who gained prominence through the popularity of their daughters.

Firebird has reportedly set aside an initial $20 million for the joint venture that will manage siblings Charli and Dixie D’Amelio and their parents’ ventures.
