ASCAP reveals women behind the music honourees

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will honour songwriter Priscilla Renea, music executive Dominique Dunn and talent manager Eufaula Garrett during its eighth annual Women Behind the Music series on October 12th.

Taking place at Bardot in Los Angeles, the event exists to encourage and recognise women in the music community.

Since 2007, Renea has written songs for Nick Jonas (“Bacon”), Fifth Harmony (“Worth It”), Pitbull and Kesha (“Timber”), Rihanna (“California King Bed,” “Watch N’ Learn”), Miranda Lambert featuring Carrie Underwood (“Something Bad”), Chris Brown (“Don’t Wake Me Up”), and Madonna (“Love Spent,” & “Gang Bang”).

This October, she will be featured alongside Meek Mill and Pusha T on the soundtrack for the film Birth of a Nation.

Garrett serves as EVP of New Business Development for André “3000” Benjamin.

As brand and talent manager for the musician, she negotiated a three-year development deal with Paramount/MTV, and co-produced the Emmy-winning ‘Class of 3000’ on Cartoon Network.

She has also been instrumental in the launch of fashion line, Benjamin Bixby.

In 2014, Garrett oversaw all operations for the OUTKAST 20th Anniversary Global Tour, including the group’s return to Atlanta for three sold-out nights at Centennial Park.

Most recently, she was the 2016 WCLK Jazz Legend Award recipient for her on-going philanthropic support of the music industry.

Dunn started her career as an intern at Def Jam Records.

Work with a host of hitmakers led her to become a Roc Nation A&R executive, working with artists such as Jay Z, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora, and Shakira.

After discovering songs like Rihanna’s No.1 hit, “Stay,” and, more recently, “Love On the Brain,” she began managing several songwriters, producers and artists.

Since then she’s worked her way up to become Vice President of Publishing at Roc Nation.

Previous ASCAP Women Behind the Music honourees have included Salt-N-Pepa, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, celebrity deejay JaKissa “DJ Kiss” Taylor-Semple, singer-songwriter K. Michelle, Billboard Senior Editor Gail Mitchell, Motown Record’s Vice President of Creative Relations Myisha Brooks, General Manager of Tree Sound Studios Mali Hunter and CEO of Mizay Entertainment Debra Antney.

This year’s event will feature a Q&A session moderated by ASCAP Associate Director of Rhythm & Soul Membership, Moya Nkruma, followed by a post-cocktail reception with special performances and music provided by DJ Niena Drake.
